Ho Chi Minh City Weather - Vietnam

Ho Chi Minh Weather: Ho Chi Minh City is well known for its pleasant weather conditions and is less prone to natural disasters as compared to the central region and the high lands. Located in the South of Vietnam, the city has the seasons of a tropical monsoon climate – Dry season and Rainy Season.

Vienam weather news:

Information weather in Ho Chi Minh city

With a population of more than nine million, Ho Chi Minh is the largest metropolitan city with the largest population than any other city of Vietnam. Once known as Saigon, it is a seaport and a central hub of trade and culture in Vietnam. While Hanoi has governmental importance and is an attraction for tourists because of its historical and cultural landmarks, Ho Chi Minh holds economic importance and inhabits a modern metropolitan lifestyle comparable to that of New York and London.  Most prominent architectural structures are Reunification Palace, Municipal Theatre, City Post Office, State Bank Office, Notre-Dame Cathedral and City People's Court.

Night life is something that adds uniqueness to the city and keep the city alive. Bars and tea houses with live local and foreign performances keep the city up whole night. Life of Ho Chi Minh City is fast moving and busy and night life is a way to relax and enjoy.  Amusement parks are another big source of recreation here. Dam Sen, Dai Nam and Suoi Tien are the famous amusement complexes especially for families exhibiting zoos and water games.  Other amusements include History and War Museums, Tech Park in District 1, beach resorts and hundreds of active theatres and cinemas.

Dry Season - Unlike the northern areas of Vietnam that experience cold weather in dry season, Ho Chi Minh is still a summer for its natives. Starting in December and extending till April, dry season is recommended as the best time to visit the city.  Maximum average temperature is recorded as 34.6 degrees Celsius in the month of April and the minimum temperature recorded is 21.1 degrees Celsius in the month of December. The highest peak temperature is recorded as 40 degrees Celsius in April and lowest peak temperature as 16 degrees Celsius in February. Overall, the time period from December to April are the hottest months of the year in the city but is still suggested to be the best time to visit the city because of reduced humidity levels and very little rain relative to the wet season. It is an ideal place for the tourists to escape from the continents of severe winter and experience warm winters in Asia.

Attractions for the tourist specific to the dry season in Ho Chi Minh City are the Christmas and New Year celebrations. Local people celebrate the time from Christmas Eve to the New Year with full vigor and zest. Streets and shopping centers are lit up with colorful lights and decorated beautifully. Opening of grand sales make it the most awaited season for the shopaholics. Lunar year celebrations also lie in the dry season tenure from late January to mid-February. But none other brings more color, energy and life to the city than the celebrations of Tet Festival.

Rainy Season - The second type of the tropical monsoon climate that exists in Vietnam is the wet season. In Ho Chi Min City, this season arrives in May and departs in November. Humidity levels are very high and so are the rains. It rains heavily at day time but shortly after, sky gets clear for the sun to shine with even more intensity. The highest number of rainy days are 23 recorded in September and lowest number of 17 days in May.  Highest average rainfall is recorded in the month of July to be 311.7 mm and the lowest rainfall is recorded in November to be 116.5 mm. Humidity level is as high as 83% in September and as low as 79% in May.  In the wet season, humidity level is recorded maximum 77 % and minimum 70%.

Despite these weather conditions, wet season in Ho Chi Minh City has its own seasonal attractions in the form of national holidays - Vietnam Reunification Day on 30th April, 1st May and Vietnam National Holiday on 2nd September.
