Hue Weather - Vietnam

As the capital of Thành phố Huế province, Hue sits near the bank of Perfume River bordering Laos on its west and South China Sea on its east. It is located just at the center of Vietnam with Ha Noi in its North and Ho Chi Minh City in its south. Hue is an ancient city with numerous remains of the Nguyễn dynasty and relics from Vietnam War.

Huge monumental structures and pagodas are the main source of attracting thousands of tourists every year in Hue. These monument sites are recognized and preserved as a world heritage site by UNESCO. Perfume River has held high importance during the rule of Nguyễn dynasty. Hence, a major chunk of its northern bank is occupied by artifacts from dynasty period. A multitude of emperors are buried alongside the river and visitors interested in history pay a definite visit to this place. Imperial citadel is the royal headquarter of the dynastical period which is a huge complex with temples, gates, museums, walls, temples and art galleries. Thiên Mụ Pagoda is the largest in the city and a prime attraction for religious people. Some historic city buildings are built in French style architecture and are worth seeing as it depicts the influence of French reign in the past.

Other historical places to visit include Ngọ Môn, Forbidden Purple City, Trường Sanh Residence also known as the “Palace of Longevity”, Thái Hòa Palace, Phu Bai Airport and Thanh Toan Bridge. Motorbike adventures and tours, spas, the free hanging zipline, highwire and relaxing on Thuan An beach are amongst the various activities that you can do in Hue.

As a part of checklist before planning your trip to Hue, weather is a prime concern for every tourist as packing is done according to the weather conditions of the destination. Hue has a slightly different tropical climate as compared to other tourist cities nearby. Though it also experiences the Dry and Wet seasons, unlike the typical dry weather that prevails in winter months, Hue’s dry weather comes in summer months that is, from March to August. Temperature fluctuates between 35 degrees Celsius to 40 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels lie in the range of 80% to 90%. Sun shines with high intensity with an average amount of precipitation. From August to January, wet season prevails with very heavy rainfall to the extent of causing floods that typically start from October. Humidity levels increase to the range of 90% to 95%. Temperature however stays around 20 degrees Celsius. As this is the winter season, temperatures can go as low as 9 degrees Celsius. Unlike other cities of the country where it is still winter season, in Hue spring arrives with the beginning of the year in January and lasts only till February.

Downpours during summer time are of short duration but heavy and unpredictable so it is always wise to keep an umbrella with you to avoid getting wet. Similarly, winters could be too cold for some tourists so it is advisable to take along a warm jacket or a woven sweater with you and waterproof rubber boots to keep your feet dry in high rainfall levels.

Best time to visit Hue

Two major weather conditions that determine the best time to visit any region are the temperatures and precipitation levels. Hue faces rainfall for limited time during dry season days beginning from March and lasting till September but is very hot with temperature going as high as 41 degrees Celsius. Though sky is clear and blue and gives a scenic view of the city, the blazing sun that glares with great intensity for most part of the day is unbearable. On the other hand, Wet season that starts in October comes with reduced temperature but heavy and continuous rainfall.

January to February is the best time to visit the city as temperature as well as precipitation level are bearable. It normally drizzles though for some, even January is cold and they head for Da Nang beaches. Hue beaches can be enjoying in summer season but there is a risk of typhoon so it is infamous for beach holidays as compared to its counterparts in the country.
