Sa Pa Weather - Vietnam

Sa Pa is a town as well as a district of the Lào Cai province in the north west of Vietnam. It is a mountainous frontier near the border of China and Vietnam. Its history is believed to be as old as 15th century. From time to time it has been dwelled by groups of different ethnicity. Today, it still inhabits several minority ethnic groups who actually reside in the villages around. The Sa Pa town is a place where these people gather to trade with each other and sell handicrafts or souvenirs to the foreigners. It is a main tourism region of the country for foreigners as well as domestic elite travelers. The thriving economy of the town is a result of thousands of tourists that visit to trek in Sa Pa and the villages around.

In majority, Sa Pa is a mountainous area with much of the land occupied by the Hoàng Liên Son mountain range. The highest mountain peak of Vietnam, FanSiPan is also a part of this range standing at an altitude of 3143 m above sea level. Sa Pa is also an agricultural land with scenic terrace fields in the lower slopes of the Hoàng Liên Son Mountains. These crops are harvested by the minority groups in September yielding rice and corn. The mountain range homes a versatility of animals and plants that are rarely found in the rest of the world. That is why, in 2006 much of the Hoàng Liên area was declared as the National Park. Moving up the altitude, you will find different types of forests. At 2000 ft begins the untouched natural forests that continues to increase in wilderness up till the FanSiPan Mountain.

Sa Pa can be experienced best on foot. It is famous for its trekking trails and cycling routes in and around the district. The harvesting season gives striking view of nature and the foggy winters creates an ambience of mystery and romance that are exclusive only to the region of Sa Pa. Besides physical activities and savory food items, getting to meet with its people and understanding their culture is one of the activities most tourists find interesting,

Because of its location in the North West highlands of Vietnam, Sa Pa weather is characterized by humid subtropical climate in summers and mild to cool winters. Unlike summers of lowland plain areas like Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang, Sa Pa has a mild summer season. That is why, it is an ideal spot to escape from the sweltering heat in summers for the urban people in the lowland cities. All the four seasons can be experienced in Sa Pa in one day. For the locals, morning starts with spring, the afternoon is hot and humid as in summers, in the late afternoon it gets dark and cloudy just like in autumn and by night it is gets cold as in winters.

Relative humidity ranges from 83% to 87% and temperatures vary between 15 degrees Celsius to 30 degrees Celsius. The average annual temperature is measured to be 15 degrees Celsius rising as high as 29 degrees Celsius and falling as low as 1 degrees Celsius. June through August are the hottest months in Sa Pa but a cooler place for the lowland residents. Though less populated, it gets crowded by domestic travelers in these summer months.
